On Wednesday, a Virginia court denied actress Amber Heard's request for a new trial in the libel case she lost to her ex-husband Johnny Depp.

Judge Penney Azcarate rejected a request from Heard's attorneys to have the jury judgement awarded Depp $10 million set aside and a mistrial declared.

Heard had requested a new trial due to a case of mistaken identity involving one of the seven jurors, who was actually his son rather than the guy who had been called for jury duty.

The juror "satisfied the legislative conditions for service," according to Azcarate, and there is "no proof of fraud or wrongdoing."The judge declared, "The juror was screened, sat for the entire jury, deliberated, and reached a verdict.

After an intensive six-week trial centred on hotly debated claims of domestic abuse, the jury held Depp and Heard responsible for defamation in June, but they sided more strongly with the "Pirates of the Caribbean" star.

Millions of people watched the case's live feed, which included graphic and confidential information about the private lives of Hollywood celebrities.

The jury determined that Heard's 2018 newspaper story about her encounter with "sexual violence" was defamatory and awarded Depp $10 million in damages.

Depp, 59, sued Heard over a Washington Post op-ed in which she identified herself as a "public figure representing domestic abuse" without mentioning him.

The counter-suing 36-year-old Heard was given a $2 million settlement
